About this deal

A superb first edition copy of these final six Miss Marple stories by Agatha Christie, gripping murder mystery tales. A man dies from a gunshot wound in the parson's wife's arms, whispering the word sanctuary with his dying breath. Christie often stayed at Abney Hall in Cheshire, which was owned by her brother-in-law, James Watts.

This story was specially written by Christie for the Westminster Abbey restoration appeal fund of that year. The stories that involved crime or murder are just very dull and confusing in the way they seem to contain so much information crammed up in a few pages. The stories Strange Jest, The Case of the Perfect Maid and The Tape-Measure Murder were adapted as episodes of the Japanese anime television series Agatha Christie's Great Detectives Poirot and Marple in 2004.

During her first marriage, Agatha published six novels, a collection of short stories, and a number of short stories in magazines. In a Glass Darkly- Set during and after World War I, this tale of a man who foresees a murder, and persuades the victim to separate from her fiance has two surprises in the end. This collection was originally published in 1979 but the individual stories date variously from the 1930s to the 1950s. While trying to entertain a friend from the city with the local sight of an oddly built local house, he stumbles into a family drama and a murder-to-be decades in the making.

A fine first impression copy of this volume of Christie's final Marple short stories, gripping murder mystery stories by the Queen of Crime, The first edition, first impression of this work. The latest audio edition includes an additional short story, originally published in The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding collection, Greenshaw's Folly. I have watched many of Miss Marple’s adaptations on TV, but never came across these particular ones.

The stories included are: Sanctuary (featuring the wonderful Bunch Harmon, well known from other Miss Marple books). First published in the collection Miss Marple’s Final Cases, these three delightfully clever tales will keep you guessing till the end. And for Christie's short stories which don't feature one of her leading characters: "an Agatha Christie Standalone Short Story. She is best known for her 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections, as well as the world’s longest-running play – The Mousetrap.

Christie's travels with Mallowan contributed background to several of her novels set in the Middle East.
