About this deal

I absolutely sped through the book and really found learning about the actual hormonal process of labour and birth and how I can affect that incredibly helpful. As with many things, if you can take the positive bits and ignore the snark, there’s some really great information and guiding principles in here.

The book was just a basic primer on what you need to know for birth— the stages of labor, how to pack a hospital bag, writing a birth plan. Being relaxed is the key, so you will learn how to quickly and easily access a state of deep relaxation using a combination of breathing techniques, visualisations, guided relaxation exercises, light touch massage, positive affirmations and various other techniques. I feel like that's just setting expectant mothers up with unrealistic expectations that leave them unprepared for the reality of childbirth. I was recommended this book by my cousin and it’s definitely been a thought changer when it comes to birthing babies. I have so much more confidence and feel empowered and equipped to advocate for myself and baby after reading this book.

They know the evidence better than we do and are recommending things with a patient centered, evidence based approach. Maybe that can be true for some people, but for the vast majority of women, even those with positive birth experiences, that simply isn't accurate.

I watched one of Siobhan's one hour webinars (free) and that was a useful sunmary of most of the things which are in the book. Giving birth—however you choose to do it—is truly the most amazing thing you will experience in your life, and meeting your precious baby for the first time is one of life's most unforgettable moments.Someone I know recommended this book and I read it within a few days … I now have a totally different mindset and excited for birth. I never thought I'd be able to labour and give birth without any pain relief, but I did thanks to what I learned in the book and using breathing techniques with the help of the Freya app. There are other chapters that I didn't elaborate on in this review that includes helpful guidelines for decision making, explanation about induction, how to practice hypnobirthing during a cesarean birth, and even a complete packing list for a birth bag—information that is good to know for when it's needed.

I also feel there is a (likely inadvertent) negative tone around a lot of the things said about healthcare professionals and medical intervention and I wonder whether this leaves some women with fears about what may happen.

In this review, I'd like to share the contents of this book to give an idea to those who are interested in reading it as well.
