About this deal

The story itself isn't particularly thrilling, but we enjoyed it and have read it a few times since then since the real interest is in seeing all the different places they go to. At Trafalgar Square, they meet a talking stone lion, and he takes them on a wonderful tour of the city taking in such sights as The Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and the London Eye! When Katie and her cousin Jack visit London with Grandma, they don’t think there’s much to see and do. Not everyone will be acquainted with London and its famous sighs, children new to London will enjoy it, children who have visited these sights will enjoy revisiting them through this story, and a class teacher could use it as an introduction to a visit into central London. Feelings are important too – young readers will like the touching ending when Katie and Jack hand over a woolly blanket, purchased at Harrods with the last of their pocket money, to keep the lion’s tummy warm.

Featuring many of London's key landmarks, this storybook has become a bestselling introduction to London, and is perfect for children visiting the city for the first time. Imagine that you are the Queen, looking out of the windows of Buckingham Palace and you see Katie, Jack and a lion walking past. This is a reread - i read this to my daughter many times, then to her class and two other classes when talking about London and all things British. When the children have finished all of their work helping with the presents and made it home there is something special under the tree. James Mayhew studied at Maidstone College of Art and his first children's book, Katie's Picture Show was published in 1989. This would be a lovely way to introduce any child to London, perhaps as a way to calm nerves before a first trip or as a way to reminisce after visiting.

Soon they are flying high across London, over snow-dusted landmarks, through the star-scattered sky with the one and only Father Christmas, in his sleigh, with his magical reindeer! He has published over 60 books, and illustrated and written for many other colleagues including Philippa Pearce, Martin Waddell and Jackie Morris. Featuring many of the key sights of Britain's capital, this storybook has become a bestselling introduction to London, and a perfect story for children visiting the city for the first time. Biography: James Mayhew studied at Maidstone College of Art and his first children's book, Katie's Picture Show was published in 1989.When Katie and her cousin Jack visit London with Grandma, they don't think there's much to see and do. As if it could have been passed down by many generations before and gets pulled out every Christmastime for a read. We have all extracted joy from the notion that one of the lions at the base of Nelson's column comes to life and carries Katie all over the place.
